(1) Pictures shouldn’t have the intention of glorifying the subject. (2) The image that is drawn shouldn’t have the likeness for the creation of Allah-swt.

I think point #1 is obvious.

But point #2, you must be kidding me. You really think that if this doll had 10 fingers and a round head, it would be haram? Even though this doll resembles a bearded "Smeagol" and not really a human, would it be imitating Allah's creation? Do you realize your scholars were against creating anything with eyes, not too long ago. So I guess eyes are halal now, conveniently. You scholars thought printing a picture on an ephemeral piece of paper was haram, and lets not even mention photographs.

No matter how skilled an artist, they can never make anything with the likeliness of Allah's creation. But if you want to talk about scientific methods, that's where I can see the ruling applied.

After a number of emails (some nice and some not so nice), I decided to alter the middle image - the one that was used for the template to make the "ghetto Abdullah" puppet.

Jazakallahu khairun to those who were nice about the advice :)

Just a friendly reminder: Having the right approach and manner is ehsaan in akhlaaq. This is part of the sunnah of our beloved RasulAllah-saw.

I speak to myself before I speak to others about this. May Allah-swt make us people of the best of character. Ameen.

This is a really good idea. I hope you guys can take it further, I think you should spend more time in character development, and assess how your audience will (psychologically) respond to the character.

lol I made that puppet to see how well I could make one without having to pay an arm and a leg for one professionally done.

We have to do 2-D or 3-D drawings at first if we want to digitize them, then send them to the puppet makers to replicate. then the pictures are destroyed.

I love my ghetto puppet. it took me 3 hours to make him. lol

@Hakim -
Walaikum asalaam wr wb and jazakallahu khairun for the comment and the heads up about the pictures. I appreciate it.

I've consulted my teachers on the pictures issue and couple points were addressed to me: (1) Pictures shouldn't have the intention of glorifying the subject. (2) The image that is drawn shouldn't have the likeness for the creation of Allah-swt.

For example, the real human head isn't shaped like a football and the real human head isn't the size of the entire human body, nor do real humans have four fingers. - I've been taught: If the likeness is removed, it's okay insha Allah

Also, to have a puppet put together either by a professional or yourself, you need sketches to follow

Allahu alam

If ever in the future you find yourself in a similar situation, don't take my word for it. Seek out your teachers and read up on the issue inshaAllah :)
