My favorite instance of this is the foley used to create the effect of Luke Skywalker jumping off of Jabba The Hut’s ship on Naboo in Star Wars Episode XI: Return of the Jedi. To simulate the “wooden platform jump,” Star Wars’ editor and Skywalker Sound’s sound editing genius Ben Burtt stuck a wooden ruler off the edge of his table, hit record, and gave it a good flick. The result? A “realistic” jump off of a pirate ship, lightsaber in hand.

The flowing of ideas for me personally, is like breathing. I’ve developed a habit to write all my nice ideas down. I get quite a few every day and have a folder in my filing cabinet where I dump them all. What I’ve found difficult is keeping the discipline of posting them on the blog here.

I’ve been following your idea thread and wondered if you could reflect a bit. How have you found the experience? Do you find the ideas came easy on some days and other days you had to really force your mind to crank? Has it taken a lot of discipline to force in your schedule or has it been natural?

Thanks, I knew that foli sound effects were often used with just regular objects on a sound stage, but that site is definitely a good reference to keep for future productions.
By the way, your list of ideas is growing rapidly, and I like it a lot.
Just seeing productivity happen inspires others to become more productive.
