Epi-Storm Preproduction – Awakening

The winner of the epi-storm on my blog (Limited Immortality) was: A young man’s journy to Islam and the challenges he faces between culture and deen.
25 episodes will be layed out as such:
- Episodes 1-5 will be him getting introduced to Islam.
- Episodes 6-10 will be him becoming Muslim. Episode 10 he becomes Muslim.
- Episodes 11-20 will be the experiences of culture vs. deen, and learning the religion.
- Episodes 21-25 will be about marriage (what did you expect?)
The premiere and finale will be 5-10 mins each in length, while the other episodes will be 2-4 mins in length each. In this post I want to discuss and plan out the first five episodes.
[Episode 1 Mind-Storm Complete] – Aug 3, 2006:
Main character is drunk. He finds himself in the plaza, and sees a niqaabi with two other hijaabi sisters. He says some insulting things (he’s drunk so he doesnt know what hes doing really). He niqaabi respons in a way that throws him off.
From there he makes his way home. He’s still drunk and a lil high. His home is decorated with starwars stuff. he sits down on the sofa and begins to watch the news. some moments go by. He hears something move in his home. He’s all alone. A dark figure moves in the shadows. From a hand movement of the dark figure an object is thrown at him from a different direction.
The dark figure then attacks. its a niqaabi (a ninja from his prespective). he tries to defend himself. Niqaabi pulls out a light saber as he pulls out his. deul takes palce.
He runs from her as she attacks him. The two continue to duel each other. the phone rings, distracting him. In that moment the niqaabi disarms and corners him. She does her finishing move on him.
Our main character wakes up from a real bad hang over. His phone is ringing. (We learn his situtation was that he fell asleep watching the news drunk and high.) He answers the phone. Its his girl friend. She dumps him, last night at the plaza he got drunk, said things to her he shouldnt have, and left her there. (At this point hes confused as to whether or not he really did insult a niqaabi the night before or not)
He sits down to watch the tv, but b/c of the headach of the hang over he gets up turns off the news. He tries to get some more sleep yet he cant. he realizes that he isnt driunk enough… he goes to the fridge to get more alcohol… he realizes he ran out. He slams the door and decides to run to the store.
He doesnt have a job yet and he’s been sending resumes to a lot off places and going to a lot off interviews. Nobody hires him cause his drug tests come back bad. As he makes his way to the store he is still wondering ‘ How the heck that ninja chick beat me?’ considering he is a master at martial arts.
At the store he meets one of his buddies (A muslim) who tells him that he may have a job for him. turns out that the job is a Muslim place. They have lunch together (he woke up close to noon time). His buddy give the contact for the work place.
He calls the contact, and sets up an interview. He goes in. As he walks into the place, a niqaabi walks out.

He walks to the toilet and throws up. Then he heads outside to buy some drugs. The people he buys from are cops. He ends up in jail. In jail, there are two clicks, the gay people (who attack and mess with each other) and the Muslim people who dont engage in those activities. The gay people are scared off the Muslim people. To save himself from being raped and attacked by the gays, he makes good friends with Muslims so nobody messes with him. His sentence in jail is for a month.
This sounds kind off retarded.

Continuing the story, he comes out off jail and is interested in Islam. He goes to a local desi masjid to learn more. It smells like bad masalas and stuff. The also do madd bidah and he gets the wrong impression of Muslims. Then he goes to this salafi masjid and starts leaning towards salafism.

so the niqaabi just attacks him for no reason? im thinking why not give the niqaabi a reason to kick his butt?..umm like say he’s all drunk and high walking around in the plaza trying to find his car…then he finds himself hitting on a niqaabi gurl passing by. Then she has all means to finish him

Orrr…how about him having the mentality that all hijaabis and niqaabis are opressed and illiterate… he doses off all high and drunk watching the news while trashing muslim females…
then in the dream he harasses a niqaabi walking down the plaza as he thinks she will not understand what he’s saying ( in other words he thinks that shes a fob)… suprisingly the niqaabi responds to him andthen the duel starts from there……………( you know wat would be hilarious!!! the niqaabi sis fighting the guy while she sings ‘Free’ by Sami.:P )

I like this one better. better way to start off the episode. so he start ‘harassing’ her. duel takes place, he wakes up infront of the TV with the news playing…
then what?

^^^ White people can be convicts. But if you want something else cause he’s a gora valaa, make him a memeber off the KKK. Or some type off racist. How about he owns his own business. I remember the white people at my old job who were the owners were madd racist and ignorant. And they made the most ignorant statements. They were always drunk on the job. And saying stupid junk to people. Make him an ignorant white person who never worked hard in his life and was given everything cause he was born rich. So he gets up, goes to the business he owns. He has Muslim peopel working there and he is a total jerk to them. He makes racist statements to them. How about that?

this isnt that type of white person. perhaps its a good idea to give a description of this guy.
Hes a regular white guy. Likes to have fun and party occationally. He’s a starwars fan, and is into the whole martial arts thing.
think of him as a recent graduate of college, and he doesnt really know where to go in life. The main character overall is a likeable character. remember, he’s the main character of the story.

^^^ we’ll if he’s a college grad, and not that type off a white guy, why would he make a racist comment to the niqaabi. And he can change over time. Say something bad happens to him and he suddenly changes his life around from being that type off a white guy?

humm so after he gets up from the ‘nightmare’ he acutally thinks twice about these so called niqaabis(in his terms ninja) only now he thinks everyone who ever said ‘muslims are terrorits’ was completly sane.
He gets some beer and finshes watching the news…only this time whenever he sees a niqaabi on the screen he is terrified.
After a while he gets up turns off the news. He tries to get some more sleep yet he cant.. he realizes that he isnt driunk enough… he goes to the fridge to get more alcohol… he realizes he ran out. He slams the door and decides to run to the store.
As he gets dressed he curses his life. He feels hopeless and he hates muslims especially niqaabies.
he is still wondering ‘ How the heck that ninja chick beat me?’ considering he is a master at martial arts. This is when he thinks there might be something more to these oppressed women. somethign spritual. something he cant see was giving her strength…………………..

Continuing my story…
He gets ready to go out a job interview. He does well, but they tell him he has to wait 6 weeks for a response. So he’s frusturated now cause his girl dumped him that morning and he cant get a job. He meets up with friends later in the afternoon and acts like a white guy and gets drunk. He starts acting stupid and he walks on the street puring water on slutty girls. Then he sees a niqaabi.
He tells the niqaabi to come over. She walks away from him. He walks up to her and tries to pull her niqaab off and pour water on her. She beats him up, just like in his dream. Only this time it is real life. He ends up in the hospital. He reports the incident to the police.
The police inform him that he has to report to court to pay a fine for his bad behaviour. He goes to court and the niqaabi chick is there. He is shocked at the fact that she knows how to speak english. He is intrigued by why an AMERICAN BORN female would dress like that. He decides he needs to do more research on this issue. Cause he is really shocked by that. This will get him interested in Islam, the fact that american born people practice it fully (a few off them). Continue the story from here…

Forget the ninja. It’s such a played-out idea, and seems a bit too gimmicky with the lightsaber as you have it outlined above.
Here’s a suggestion…
He’s drunk at night in the plaza, and does insult the Muslimahs. However, a security guard steps in, and pulls him out of the plaza due to his lack of sobriety.
The muhajjabahs want to insult the guy, but the munaaqabah prays to Allah that he be guided.
Forget the dream… let him wake up and the story proceed as you want it as far as his journey to Islam. The point of the opening then, is that his journey is a result of the du’aa she makes, not the insult she could’ve made.
Towards the end, a niqab-wearing sister (was it the same one… we never know), crosses paths in his life. You can go different ways from there… the romantic angle.. or maybe even better, he remembers what he said before he found Islam, and because of that, his level of respect for that sister is of the utmost level. He sees her truly as a “sister”.

^^^ That would be too serious. I think the ninja stuff and the light saber will make it a little comedic and make more people wanna watch.

Agreed. Dont u think her making dua’a and him being guided by her is a bit cliche?…its very well expected thus everyone can forsee the ending… that would result less ppl interesed in watching it.
I think the episodes should be a bit .. umm ‘Suprising’ i mean im pretty sure the veiwers wouldnt expect a niqaabi kicking the butt of a marital arts master:P with a lightsaber… now thats sweeeet!
