    Simply genius,

Little bit of creativity goes a long way.
while i was watching the video, i was like i hope this dude is not carrying the tripod around because i can’t even balance the camera alone.

    Nice post,

    Thanks for shearing!

That was a nifty trick. I don’t have much experience with video, though, so my first impression was that the trick is good only for a limited set of circumstances. That is to say, the range over which you can move the camera is limited.

At the same time, it’s FREE, so I guess it would work for when you need it, right?

It’s limited depending on how you plan to shoot your footage. One of the things that adds real “dynamicness” (is that a real word?) to a shoot is smooth movement of the camera.

In the situations of a documentary, this technique is great for making some cool B-Roll footage or even if you’re shooting a tour in an artistic manner this would be a great way to show the space of the place. It seems great for shooting short commercials and of course if one is making a sort of a film or telling a narrative story, in moments of emotional engagement it would be great to use this technique to “dolly in” on someone’s face slowly.
