Filming Free Parking Day 01 Fun
Today was suppose to be day 02 of filming, but Allah willed it to snow, so we had to postpone. We completed day 01 of filming “Free Parking” last week Thursday (March 29). InshaAllah we are going to continue filming tomorrow.
For those of you who don’t know, “Free Parking” is a short film making fun of the parking situation on university campuses, with a moral lesson on how to deal with life’s troubles
Equipment used on day 01:
- Sony FX1 HDV Camcorder
- Poor Man’s Steadycam
- Ski-pole as a grip for mic
- Radio shack mic
Lessons from day 01:
- If your team is full of volunteers, double your production time. You will most likely have plenty of fall outs. Make sure that your main people are people whom you trust and have worked with before.
- Doesn’t matter how much you plan, you will make adjustment along the way. At times even scrapping the plan and starting from scratch on location.
- Edit as you go, or else you will have a LOT of editing to do once you are done filming.

Asalam alaikum Belal,
I liked the editing part in the beginning of the video. That must be lot of cut and past with frames! How did you match the beats with the sense? Ma shallah I liked it. Keep up updated. Wa salam alaikum. I am having similar situation with the rest of the videos, I am having issues with downloaded Firefox. I have win vista and it really sucks! Jazaka Allah wa salam alaikum.
abuyaqob Says:
please excuse my typo, just wake up!
AlBaraa Says:
The editing of that sequence took about 2 hrs. It was quite simple actually. Cut and slide…cut and slide. Knowing the keyboard functions of the editing program you are using speeds up the process very much.
Re vista…i agree. The only cool thing I like about it is the 3D window search button on the taskbar, everything else is just a resource hog.
