A pictures can tell a thousand words, but with motion picture you have twenty-four thousand words every second.

If you have followed this blog from is earlier days you may remember a post on the Lumiere Brothers. These guys were photographers who invented “motion picture.” Filmmaking and videography is fundamentally photography. That’s why I’ve added a new “photography” category where I’ll be sharing tips on photography that I know, will learn in the future, as well as well as an occasional “photoblog” entry InshaAllah.

A little while back I had started a photoblog called “Sheesha” (it means “glass” in the Urdu language). I’ve decided to move it into this blog.

If you want to see some of my photography I’ve done in the past, you can check my picasa-gallery.

Question: what camera are you using for your stills ?, are you using the technique that you mentioned a while ago, where you put togather 2 or three pictures to give it a widescreen sort of effect ?
BTW are you still doing coaching with Mohammad Al-shareef, ?

    best wishes,
    waQas

BTW – love the new blog design, much more interactive and the menu is easy to find everything. The look is good too expect the RSS logo on the top its half cut off, kind of distracting from the main menu, but thats just my opinion :P

Thanks for your comments Waqas. Re your questions:

    - I use my sony cybershot DSC-P72. I use the same ‘broken panorama’ technique to make the wide images.
    - I am doing coaching with sensei in a group on the DiscoverULife system. check it out on the website: http://www.discoverulife.com

and live your dreams with sensei :P and Alhamdulillah now I am onto bigger and better challenges inshallah and I will also be taking the Breach of covenant with him in November.

I also need some help with a TV show i am working on, I am using Mini DV, I do have maual focus.
what I want to do is, I want to keep the focus on the character while blur out the backgorund, any ideas? I have tried this using the camera’s manual focus but it ends up making the face a little blurry as well.

    any ideas ?

“I want to keep the focus on the character while blur out the backgorund, any ideas?”

Its called “Shallow Depth of Field” effect. What you will need is a tripod and the ability to zoom.

Say you want a medium shot of the talent. Normally you would keep the cam about 10 feet away and frame your talent into the shot. Due to the cheap lens of cheap cameras, you will have a “deep depth of field”

To get the shallow effect, move the camera back about 30-50 feet. Make sure your talent is framed properly…zoom in to get your initial medium shot, and you will notice that the background is not blurred out.

correction **…and you will notice that the background IS blurred out.**
