Mujahideen Ryder Makes His First HD Video

Reading time: 2 – 2 minutes

Amir has been running a blog for quite a while now titled “Mujahideen Ryder” – on it you’ll find some quirky posts, as well as some profound content from himself.

Recently Amir released a video that he himself put together to promot an event taking place in September sponsored by Islamic Relif and United for Change against Malaria.

Amir requested that I give his video a critique, so here goes:

What I liked:

  • Its HD -
Makes the image quality of the video look real nice mashaAllah.
  • Made use of Prominence -
Featuring many prominent Muslims on screen from different organizations.

What can be improved:

  • Eye candy -
Use B-Roll footage instead of simply talking head. Add more pictures.
  • Tell a story -
I think Imam Zaid’s part should have been in front. It seems the most visually and audibly impact-ful. He’s telling his story as opposed to saying “come to the event” – a call to action which should be in the end.

That’s it for now. Amir, for your next video try applying these two factors with excellence and watch the quality of your video improve massively inshaAllah.

MashaAllah, looks awesome in HD. Spectacular footage!

    My two cents,

+1 on what Belal said about what he liked.
I also love that you are experimenting with video, I hope to see more work from you inshaAllah!

    Tips:
Camera placement: Some people may get bored very easily, try holding it up with your elbow tucked in to add a nice effect to the video. It will feel like it’s “moving” without actually moving. For still images try ken burns effect.

+1 on B-roll, just shoot random footage and cut to it randomly without a transition. (ie. hands etc.)

    MashaAllah great video.
I also agree with adding in some b-roll footage. Even, to mix it up a bit, cutting to a zoomed-in shot of just the speaker’s head as he speaks (this can be done with artificial zoom).

I also think you should’ve used ken burns a bit more on the pics (though, great job on the flier, you could actually read the info).

Overall though, great job (and might I say I honestly think this is an improvement from the other malaria video, though, it may just be because it’s in HD, or the interviewees are all well-known people…hmmm) :)
