New Approach To Story With New Browntourage Episode

Reading time: 1 – 2 minutes

About a month ago I took a trip to Ottawa to attend sensei’s daughter’s aqeeqah and also deliver on the IlmFest 2009 DVDs for RIS.

After having done three episodes of Browntourage and another seven in the back burner – I wanted to take a new approach to it all. Instead of focusing the places or people, I decided to put the focus on story with a narrative.

A story structured in three-acts as well as following a “hero’s journey

Let me know this short film engages you and makes you feel.

    Salam Belal,

    I thought that the film was quite meaningful, however if possible maybe you can create another video/trailer for a producer-ship offer by leechon and beam it out to the youth. Also what you said at the end probably was the climax of the video and perhaps you should have spent more time developing and explaining the producer-ship idea than was originally spent.

    the best part of all your videos is how u manage to produce audio sounds without using musical instruments, I think that is just pure undiluted creativity!

    Wassalam

    @Haris – definitely liking the audio too

    Of course your vid qualities are consistently superb, mashaAllah.

    I like the narrative approach AND the place/people. For the engagement portion, do the narrative but end with a “Belal” shot or something more personal. It’s human nature (from my understanding) to want to feel like they “know” somebody.

    Experimentation, see what clicks.

    Wishing you the best with your projects and internship,

    Thanks for the comments and encouragement guys. Really appreciate it :)

    @Haris –
    I’d agree with you the end is the climax – if – the story was about the Leechon producership, which I guess is an over arching story, extending beyond this video. However, this video is about my trip to Ottawa.

    RE promo/trailer for producership – the deadline has passed and applications are currently in review. Making a promo for it would prove counter productive. If inshaAllah I decide to do this again in the future, I may do something of that sort.

    @Nahyan -
    In truth, I would have included more activity and people stuff, but from what I experienced – in the winter Ottawa is a dead town. There’s really nothing to do there :P

    We’ll see in future Browntourage vids.

    Keep in mind, this series is simply an exercise in story telling for me personally and a means of connecting with an audience.

    Perhaps it’s something I can build up in the future to something I can get people or orgs to sponsor – this way I can go to places, tell a story, promote an org/cause and make some extra cash for a weekend :)

    I like the new narrative style! Certainly keeps me more interested throughout the video.

    I definitely like the storyline style…

    It seems to have really developed as a show….Alhamdulillah, now I’m re-thinking my own videos…it seems to be a large-scale epidemic for beginning video makers to realize that videos/films are nothing but embellished stories.

  6. Asiya Says:

    MashaAllah! I agree with br. Saad. The narrative style kept me interested in the video as well!

    Masha’Allah. This is a beautiful video. I was quite engrossed in the story, and the film itself is great with lots of beautiful scenery, clear pictures. I loved it. I’ll share. Assalamu alaikum
