Shoot Pro Without Getting Noiticed With D90

In August I posted about the Nikon D90′s release and how it seemed like an interesting product. This time around professional filmmaker Matthew Bennett made a short narrative style video titled “Subway” demonstrating what can be done with such a camera:

Imagine being about to shoot anywhere you want to without people getting upset that you’re carrying a professional camera around. Usually in public places such as a subway station, security will get on your case for not having a permit if you’ve got a real camera on you. Imagine becoming invisible and avoiding all of that! — The D90 allows you to be just that.

There’s a discussion going on about this over at DVXUser forum about the video posted: D90 Footage – quick test in Toronto subway

How many cameras on the market (or about to be on the market) can produce quality such as that or better? – Let me know!

I’m downloading the vid now, so I’ll have to comment on that, specifically, later (connection here in Egypt is not something to brag about), but I recall the quality of the HD video from the D90, while unique, was not comparable to what you can do with some of the dedicated prosumer HD camcorders.

Again, it’s the battle of compromises – convenience vs. quality. It’s hard to get the best of both in a single product, and personally, due to my preferences, I’ve always preferred quality components that are each excellent at what they do as opposed to few products that are more convenient, yet don’t deliver the same quality.

However, I’ll also say this – you’ll save a lot of money, and maybe you can apply the 80-20 rule here – get everything you truly *need* for a fraction of the cost of the dedicated components.

Okay, I saw the first few seconds of the video (it’s still downloading), and I think I need to recant a bit – a tool in the right hands can produce amazing results, maa shaa? Allaah. Good call, Belal!

    5D Mark II! :D
D90 for sure doesn’t have exposure lock while shooting video, but I don’t know about the 5D Mark II.

i wonder how much of that quality was because of the editing

As they say…its not the camera, its the skill of the filmmaker.
