Storytelling – Operation Homecoming

Reading time: 2 – 3 minutes
The other day I watched an episode of PBS’s America at a Crossroads titled, “Operation Homecoming”

The episode was made up of many segments of the stories of different soldiers. There were three that interested me the most:
Road Work
Seeing Roadwork was an inspiration for me in the fact that I teach digital story telling to school kids. The method of taking pictures with voice over narration is a very effective story telling technique. Check out Silk City Media Workshop for the stuff that students have produced.
Aftermath
Men in Black
“Men in Black” was of special interest to me. When I saw it, I immediately remembered Homeworld. When I first installed the game and watched the intro sequence. I fell in love with it:
It was spring of 2003 when I had begun my project to started video that mimicked the homeworld style. The only video making program I knew at the time was flash, and swish. I didn’t want to put in the time to learn flash, so I went with swish. In about a week and a half I ended up with this:
High Quality: Stage6

Hooking up is always a great way. The more the merrier.

What’s the major difference btwn swish and flash? Is one better in terms of quality?
I was thinking of learning flash this summer, but if swish is easier maybe I’ll go that route.

As far as I can tell, swish is for the less technically inclined, and is more focused towards certain things. With flash…the possibilities are nearly endless.
