Submitted Ottawa Snow To NYC Downtown Short Film Festival

Reading time: 1 – 2 minutes

After exploring different options, I wanted to see if I can get some festival exposure, leading to an IMDB title page for some of the work I’ve done.

I started googling film festivals in NY and NJ and ended up withoutabox.com. Started looking up IMDb qualifying film festivals and landed on the NYC Downtown Short Film Festival.

Turns out there’s a bunch of festivals in NY and NJ that qualify for IMDb. However, almost all of them are between $35.00 and $65.00 per submission. NYC Downtown short Film Festival was an affordable $15.00 per submission.

All that’s left is mailing them a DVD of the video and awaiting confirmation. Make du’aa that it get accepted.

    Salam,
    Is this the “Ottawa Snow” Brountourage episode?

    If so, I don’t know if you did this,
    but I would’ve considered re-editing it to make it more “standalone”
    and also accessible to a non-Muslim audience.
    At the very least, maybe some subtitles could’ve been added for words like “Aqeeqah”.

    You may have already thought of that stuff before submitting it though.

    good stuff, mashaAllah.
    InshaAllah it’s a useful experience for you along with getting great film festival results

    @Safi -
    Thanks for the suggestions. I thought about making changes but then I figured I didn’t want to delay it much. It’s really just a test to see how far something I did casually can go.

    I agree with you on certain vocabulary used in the narrative. In the future I’ll need to use words that are understood with the greater public.

    @Nahyan -
    It was a first experience with a service like this. In all seriousness, the real learning experience will be when I’m done with the feature-length cut of the Ilm Summit 2009 documentary and Tufaan. With a short, I’m limited to a few festivals at the moment, but with a feature film – there’s so many more venues.
