Video Series Idea Just For Muslims
UPDATE – 3.31.2009
I just got an email from one of the AlMaghrib students with the following gem taken from the Torch Bearers Seminar by AlMaghirb:
Umm Musa, was told to throw Musa in the river,
Yusuf was left for dead in a well,
Maryam (May Allah be pleased with her) delivered a child alone,
Ayesha (May Allah be pleased with her) was accused of a terrible sin,
Yunus (peace be upon him) was swallowed by a whale,
Ibrahim (peace be upon him) was thrown in the fire,
Muhammad (saw) lost the love of his life Khadija (May Allah be pleased with her),
and Umm Salamah (May Allah be pleased with her) thought no one could be better than Abu Salamah.Yet look at how it turned out for them in the end.. So don’t worry, Allah has a plan for you.
I think the best place to start would be to collect some of the most inspiring gems from the AlMaghrib seminars
UPDATE END -
I sure you’ve heard of the book series “Chicken Soup for the Soul.” It’s a compilation of 101 motivational stories contributed by people and published as a book. The end result was that people loved it and they benefited greatly.
My Idea:
Produce a series of motivational kinetic typography videos that are released weekly to the subscriber as a means of getting their week started with the right mindset.
Short rants, quotes, gems and stories meant to really pump you up.
Example video style I have in mind:

Nahyan Says:
very nice vid and good idea.
Vid’s from Rocky if I remember right…
iMuslim Says:
A nice idea, masha’Allah. There’s a quote from the film “Hope Floats” that I quite like, though not sure if it’s suitable for your series:
“I know exactly what you meant. The American Dream. You find something you love, then you twist and torture it… Trying to find a way to make money at it. Spend a lifetime doing that. At the end, there’s not a trace of what you started out lovin’. What did you start out lovin’?”
I couldn’t find a YouTube clip with the quote, but here’s a link to the appropriate part of the script:

Jawaad Ahmad Khan Says:
That’s a great idea. I’d love to join up on a project like that (kinetic typography)…
Especially with the little footage I have from Islamic events in my databank (Wisam Sharieff’s tajweed course has so many awesome tangents he goes off on…it’s great).
Sadly, I don’t use After Effects anymore (rationalized in my mind that it was wrong…) so I haven’t really had much contact with the program for a while…But still, that’d be a cool idea.
Brother Says:
Assalaamu alaikum,
Belal this is simply a fantastic idea MashaAllah. I think you should go ahead with it.
wallahu alim,
wa’aalikum salaam wa rahmatullah.
Abu Ayub Says:
Mashallah Belal this is a great idea.
Zi Says:
Good idea bro, although a bit more animation would be nice to make it more engaging and not just moving text like this:

and let’s not re-invent the wheel

Zainab Says:
I would love to have something to get me pumped up and motivated during the beginning of the week
. This is an awesome idea…
Amir Says:
Assalamu-Alaikum brother Bilal,
Masha-Allah very nice idea, I think it will be hugely beneficial to all people.
May Allah reward you for the right intention.
AdilR Says:
Like it bro
MashaAllah
Excellent idea
Maybe address peoples ponies..like money, not enough time etc and small tip on how to overcome that pony THIS WEEK
so have an action item at the end? DO this RIGHT now! or something
sfb89 Says:
Beyond daily emails, i think the content of these daily emails should be compiled on a blog. Sometimes we realize something amazing, that makes us go “subhanAllah.” I write it down and think, “if only I could share this with the rest of the world.” I think we’ve all experienced these “genuine enlightened moments”, and a blog/daily emails would be a great way to communicate them.
Across the ocean Says:
Mashallah nice idea. I really hope you would be able to add an Islamic flavor to these videos as well.
Ahmed Says:
I was just thinking of that a couple of days ago, that we should have these type of hope giving messages/videos.
Bro I think it’s an awesome idea and insha’Allah people will benefit greatly from this! go for it!
Sulekha Says:
Mashallah…you have my support 100%…
I absolutely love it.May Allah reward you for such a nice idea bi-idniAllah.
Ifrah Says:
Assalamu alaikum,
Masha’allah this is a really great idea and extremely beneficial for everyone, i would definetly pursue this if i were you
MuSLiM Says:
Assalaamu ‘alaykum,
MashaAllah it is an amazing idea, keep up the good work. The hard effort your putting in for this deen inshaAllah, may Allah(swt) accept it from you, Aameen
The idea would be greater than it already is now, I think, if there were animations added to it (as mentioned earlier) as opposed to all words. Also, to reiterate someone else’s point, a blog for those ‘striking moments’ would be beneficial too
Myrta Stenger Says:
Hey there! Just wanted to state that I really enjoy your entire posting way and that so I want to follow your blog frequently from now on
Keep it up!
Atikah Says:
Masha-Allah I think that’s a great idea!
It really added a smile to my face!
I think its a good idea and I definitely wanna stay posted!
Jazak-Allah khayr bro.
UBB Says:
Thanks for bringing to light this crucial aspect of life. It reminds me of Confucius when he says : it’s not in falling but rising every time you fall. Keep up the good work and may it be counted on your mizan.
hannah Says:
salamualaykum. ive just recently seen your projects and this one is a great idea. i dont know if you listen to npr in the mornings and afternoons, but there’s this one show called This American Life where a journalist documents audio recordings of personal stories from real life ,random people to protray a peek at life in its most unpopular unknown profoundness. its really life changing even for a muslim. When Allah the giver of time, gives you time, i think this would be yet another great idea. to film the unheard challenges, success stories, failures, short experiences of random muslims. anyways may Allah make you and your wife successful in your endeavors and RICH too! AMEEN.
AlBaraa Says:
@Hannah –
I haven’t listened to the NPR story, but I think it’s an excellent idea. The other day I had a thought of a project where I’d visit all 2600+ Facebook friends, one by one and tell their stories and what makes them profound individuals.
